Vial filling is the most widely available form of sterile fill-finish. Glass vials (2mL to 50mL) are used for liquid and lyophilized injectable products. The process involves vial washing and depyrogenation, aseptic filling under ISO 5 conditions, rubber stopper insertion, and aluminum seal crimping. CDMOs offer both ready-to-use (RTU) and bulk vial formats.
For lyophilized products, vials are partially stoppered before entering the freeze-dryer, then fully seated under controlled atmosphere after the drying cycle. This integrated fill-lyophilize-stopper process requires tightly coordinated filling and lyophilization schedules.
